Type: Cultivated material ex c. 5 km north of Ellenbrook, 31 45' 25" S, 115 57' 39" E, Western Australia, 23 Oct. 2000, A. Lowrie 2520 (holo: PERTH 06704832; iso: MEL).

Etymology: The epithet trudgenii is named in honour of Malcolm Eric Trudgen, botanist and ecologist, who discovered this species in wetlands north of Ellenbrook during a vegetation and flora survey.
