The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. Comment: nom. illeg., nom. superfl. The basionym Maytenus ferdinandi Jessup is itself a replacement name for Celastrus muelleri Benth., necessary due to the pre-existence of Maytenus muelleri Schwacke (1886). However, the epithet muelleri was available in Denhamia in 2011 and thus ought to have been adopted by Simmons (ICN Art. 11.4 (Shenzhen Code, 2018)).
