  • Etymology: The species is named in honour of my late colleague Dr Surrey Wilfrid Laurence Jacobs (1946-2009), who contibuted so much during his career to knowledge of the systematics and phylogeny of Australian waterplants, grasses and chenopods. With our common interest in plants growing in wet places, Surrey and I undertook numerous field trips together, including the one on which the type of this species and E. rivalis were collected.
