APC Comment: Some authors have considered Tritonia squalida to be an illegitimate superfluous name for Tritonia lancea, as Ixia lancea was cited in synonymy. However Ker Gawler indicated doubt in referring I. lancea to synonymy, saying "we have not adopted Thunberg's trivial name of lancea" (Bot. Mag. 16: t. 581 (1802)). -
