The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.

Etymology: "The specific epithet refers to the remoteness of this species from the large numbers of box species (E. series Porantheroideae) in eastern Australia. The nearest box species are the geographically restricted E. cuprea Brooker & Hopper ined. from north of Geraldton (Brooker & Kleinig 1990), and the relatively widespread E. petraea Carr & Carr from Freeman’s Road, north-west of Tardun. (L. abitus- away from the place). "

Text: “Eucalyptus absita: this is a non-word, said to be from Latin abitus ‘away from the place’ (i.e. adjectival), but this is a noun meaning a departure or place of egress; the ‘s’ was inserted without explanation, apparently intentionally as it was used several times in the paper (it’s a W.A. species, whereas most related species occur only in the Eastern States). You could argue for an orthographical correction to abitus but that doesn’t have the intended meaning.
