The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. Etymology:"Named in honour of John Bellenden Ker (1764-1842), a Scottish botanist. He had his name changed by royal permission in 1804 from John Gawler to Ker Bellenden but always used Bellenden Ker."
