Type: "WESTERN AUSTRALIA: Merredin, on sand plain which had apparently been burned off several years previously, destroying all the old shrubs. Max Koch, No. 3004, 30th November, 1923."

Etymology: "From Latin, coriaceus, leathery, referring to the thick leaves."

Lectotype: (here designated): on a sheet with the hand-written label: '3004. Persoonia shrub about 3 ft high as seen on a sandplain which had been burned off apparently several years ago, destroying all the old shrubs Loc: Merredin, W.A Coll: M. Koch 30.XI.1923' (MEL 103666, photo NSW). The specimen on the left-hand side of the sheet is designated lectotype. Isolectotypes: NSW (2 sheets), PERTH.
