Vascular Plants
Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Text:"Both names [i.e. Athrotaxis laxifolia Hook. and Athrotaxis tetragona Hook.] are based on R.C.Gunn 369, which represents hybrid plants, the parents being A. selaginoides and A. cupressoides. Such hybrid individuals are widespread although not common in areas where the two parent species occur, and the name A. laxifolia has been widely used for these. Gunn's number series referred to his concepts of the species, not to individual collections. Several specimens may consequently bear the same number, and in some cases these may be referable to different species."
Lectotype:middle left hand specimen (Fig. 4) lettered 'a' by us (lecto. K) on a sheet (Fig. 3) with three specimens lettered by us as "a", "b" and "c", one of which is associated with a label numbered R. C. Gunn 367.
Text:"The number '369' was later regarded by J. D. Hooker and Archer (in Hook. f., Fl. Tasman. 355. 1857) to be an error for '367'."
