  • Text: "Both names [i.e. Athrotaxis laxifolia Hook. and Athrotaxis tetragona Hook.] are based on R.C.Gunn 369, which represents hybrid plants, the parents being A. selaginoides and A. cupressoides. Such hybrid individuals are widespread although not common in areas where the two parent species occur, and the name A. laxifolia has been widely used for these. Gunn's number series referred to his concepts of the species, not to individual collections. Several specimens may consequently bear the same number, and in some cases these may be referable to different species."
