Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. Type:"... the plant from which our figure was made had grown to the height of seven feet; it having been planted in the conservatory of the Clapham Collection, where it flowered, for the first time, this year, in July ..."
Comment:Stafleu & Cowan, Tax. Lit. ed. 2, 1 (1976) 51 give the author as "probably ... John Kennedy", but as there is no such indication in the work itself, Andrews has been accepted here as the author. Given under BANKSIA L.f. (nom. cons.).
Comment:Mueller lists "Banksia marcescens = B. praemorsa, ...". Since Banksia marcescens R.Br. was previously accepted by Mueller on p. 72 of the Systematic Census (1882), Banksia praemorsa Andrews is here treated as being a newly-accepted name in this Supplement with B. marcescens in synonymy.
Neotype:"A flowering specimen collected from Kew in 1802 is here nominated as the neotype. It is lodged at BM and has the annotation "Hort Kew, 1802"."
