The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.

Type: "È ignota la patria di questa Palma che si coltiva nel Giardino botanico di Sydney, da dove il sig. F.H. Maiden mi ha inviato gli esemplari sui quali la specie è stata fondata."

Text: "This species was described from a single plant growing in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney. It apparently originated from seed collected in the Hawaiian Islands. D.R.Hodel (A review of the genus Pritchardia, Palms 51 (Supplement): S1-S53 (2007), recognised that P. maideniana and P. affinis Becc. [Mem. Benice P. Bishop Mus. 8: 37 (1921)] were conspecific, and found naturally on Kona, Kau and Puna islands, Hawaii. The name P. maideniana has priority over P. affinis."

APC Comment: A taxon from Hawaii, described from plants in cultivation in Sydney, but not known to occur in Australia.
