Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Type:"Nat. of Peru. introd. 1783, by Morris Thouin."
Comment:In the preface to volume 1 of Hortus Kewensis (1789), Aiton acknowledges "communications" of unpublished work sent to him by L'Héritier (p. vi) and cites several of these (p. xxi) in a list of "Books Quoted". This, combined with Aiton's citation of "L'Herit. stirp. nov. tom. 2 tab. 6" following the description, is here considered to constitute ascription of this new taxon name to L'Héritier by Aiton under ICN Art. 46.2 (Shenzhen Code, 2018).
