Vascular Plants
Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
APC Comment:By inclusion of the name (and by implication its type) Xylomelum scottianum in his circumscription of "X. salicinum" G.Bentham, Fl. Australiensis 5: 408 (1870) inadvertently made the latter a superfluous illegitimate name, based on the type of X. scottianum, thereby leaving the taxon until recently known as X. salicinum without a valid name. A.E.Orchard, J. Adelaide Bot. Gard. 21: 89 published X. benthamii Orchard for this latter taxon.
