Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
×
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.

When publishing the name Triglochin , C.Linnaeus, Sp. Pl. 338 (1753) treated it as of neuter gender (e.g. T. palustre, T. maritimum ). G.Bentham, Fl. Austral. 7: 165-169 (1878) treated it as feminine, presumably on the basis that "glochin" is feminine, and he was followed by most subsequent Australian authors. Since the 1990s there has been a general consensus to accept Linnaeus' original choice of neuter. However, the ICN (Art. 62.2 (b.) Ex. 5, Melbourne Code (2012)) mandates a feminine gender for Triglochin , which is adopted here.
