  • Comment: Wood and others e.g., Balech indicate that the circumscription of this taxon has narrowed since it was first described by Schutt. Wood 1954 Australian Journal of Marine & Freshwater Research 52:209 indicates that some of the dinoflagellates described in the literature under O. steinii represent O. thurni rather than O. steinii. Bohm 1936 Bishop Museum Bull. No 137 pp. 27-29 discusses some problems between these taxa.
