Carex compacta (R.Br.) Poir., nom. illeg., scientific comb. nov. apni
Poiret, J.L.M. in Lamarck, J.-B.P.A. de M. de & Poiret, J.L.M. (24 September 1813), Encyclopédie Méthodique, Botanique Suppl. 3(1): 282 [comb. nov.]
basionym: Uncinia compacta R.Br. legitimate
  • Comment: nom. illeg., non Lam. (1779).
  • Comment: A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 612 (1991) stated that Poiret did not validly make this combination, possibly in the belief that Poiret had not definitely associated the genus name and specific epithet. However, Poiret consistently uses the name of the genus in which he is making a combination followed by the base name in parentheses. This is here considered to be a typographical device that associates the genus name and specific epithet as required for valid publication under ICN Art. 35.2 and 35.2 Ex. 5 (Melbourne Code, 2012)
