Eucalyptus beyeriana L.A.S.Johnson & K.D.Hill, legitimate, scientific tax. nov. apni
Johnson, L.A.S. & Hill, K.D. (26 September 1990), New taxa and combinations in Eucalyptus and Angophora (Myrtaceae). Telopea 4(1): 83 [tax. nov.]
  • Type: "NEW SOUTH WALES: Central Coast: Nortons Basin, about 2.5 km NW of Wallacia, T.James 898, W.Bishop & C.Dunn [sic; correct collecting number for holotype is 889, fide Peter G.Wilson (NSW), pers. comm., 12 May 2021], 2.9.1987 (holo NSW; iso CANB)."
taxonomic synonym: Eucalyptus panda subsp. illaquens L.A.S.Johnson legitimate
  • Etymology: "The epithet recalls the fact that this species has been generally but mistakenly known as E. beyeri R. Baker, and in turn commemorates George Beyer (1865–1920) of the former Sydney Technological Museum, who assisted RT. Baker."
  • Text: "Since the type is thus apparently from a plant of hybrid origin, the name E. beyeri can no longer be applied in its widely-used sense, and a new name is required. The name E. beyeriana is chosen because it is sufficiently similar to the old name to minimise the effect of the change."
