The authors of EUCLID considered E. fergusonii subsp. dorsiventralis to be worthy of separate species rank, but the formal transfer has not been made. A reputed hybrid E. moluccana x E. paniculata is the basis of E. hybrida Maiden (Pryor & Johnson, 1971; Chippendale, 1988).
