Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
APC Comment:Subspecies within Brassica rapa are recognised in NSW, Qld and SA only. According to S. Snogerup (pers. comm. 2006) "...the cultivated forms, including subsp. rapa (turnip), subsp. oleifera (turnip rape) and subsp. chinensis (salad kale) are freely interbreeding with each other and the wild weedy subsp. campestris. Ruderal specimens are often not clearly referable to any of the subspecies and often very difficult to separate from B. x napus."
APC Dist.:WA (naturalised), SA (naturalised), Qld (naturalised), NSW (naturalised), ACT (doubtfully naturalised), Vic (naturalised), Tas (naturalised)
